Louisville, KY - The Miami RedHawks had their work cut out for them during the final day of the University of Louisville Tournament, as they split games today with Minnesota and Louisville.

The Miami RedHawks and the Golden Gophers of Minnesota were scoreless until the fourth inning when the Gophers pushed a single run across. Miami could not answer until freshman Kathryn Russette led off the top of the seventh inning with a solid single. Halle Popson followed with a walk, and Meghan Mawn laid down a sacrifice bunt to set the table for Breanna Robinson. The senior centerfielder roped a triple to put the RedHawks ahead 2-1.

However, the visiting Miami team ran into trouble in the bottom of the seventh. The Golden Gophers put together three hits and a walk, scoring two and putting them over the RedHawks; 3-2.

Miami started the game against Louisville behind as well, giving up a homerun to shortstop Colby Wherry, putting the Cardinals up 2-0 after the top of the first inning. The RedHawks immediately answered back. Halle Popson led off with a walk, then stole second. Senior Breanna Robinson lifted a ball over the centerfield fence for a homerun, immediately tying the game 2-2. Both teams were at a stalemate until the bottom of the sixth. Popson started things off once again with a single, and freshman Meghan Mawn sacrificed her over to second base. After a single from Christine Bills, sophomore shortstop Sarah Billstrom singled up the middle, scoring Popson. The RedHawks were able to hold on to the lead through the seventh, ending with a final score of 3-2.

All of this weekend's games were important for the RedHawks, but the win against Louisville gives Miami a needed boost. "We are putting ourselves in pressure situations during this tough preseason schedule" said Head Coach Kelly Kovach Schoenly. "Proving that we can be successful at critical times will be crucial as we head into conference. That was a quality win against a quality team."

The RedHawks travel to Lexington to face the University of Kentucky Wildcats at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.
