TROY, Ala. (March 13, 2000) -- Miami University's softball team broke out of
a four-game losing skid March 13, splitting a doubleheader with
Troy State University.
Miami dropped the opener by a 3-2 tally but was in position to win late in
the game. A two-run blast by Kristina Mortaloni (Ranchos Palos Verdes, CA)
gave Miami a 2-1 lead at the top of the sixth inning, but Troy State was
able to plate two runs off Miami errors at the bottom of the inning. Abbey
Arnold (Dana Point, CA) pitched 5.1 innings and threw seven strikeouts in a
losing effort for the Red and White.
The RedHawks used solid defense to knock off TSU in the nightcap. After
tallying a Keri Brisnehan (Englewood, CO) run in the first inning, Miami
shut out the Lady Trojans for a 1-0 victory. Amber Arnold (Dana Point, CA)
broke a two-game losing skid by pitching a complete game and throwing 10
strikeouts. Brisnehan was 2-for-3 in the game.
Miami (7-8) continues its roadstand on Wednesday when it faces the
University of Northern Iowa in the first round of the Tallahassee
Democrat/Florida State Invitational.
