WILMINGTON, N.C.--Miami ended its first day of competition at the Seahawk Classic on a positive note by defeating host-UNC Wilmington 2-0 in the final game of the day to start the season 1-2.

Kristina Mortaloni drove in Laura Fulton for the game-winning run in the sixth inning against the Seahawks with her double that pounded the fence in right center. Chrissy Martini knocked in Mortaloni to score the insurance run. Amber Arnold pitched six innings, giving up only three hits and sitting down seven batters in earning the win on the mound.

Earlier in the day, the RedHawks dropped a 1-0 decision to UNC-Charlotte in the opening game of the tournament. Abbey Arnold had a no-hitter going until the seventh inning when she gave up one run off two hits. Martini stugged the 'Hawks lone hit.

Miami turned around and lost 4-2 to Hampton in the second game of the tourney. Miami put together 12 hits to Hampton's seven in the loss. The Fulton twins led the 'Hawks at the plate. Laura went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run, while Lesley was 3-for-3 with an RBI. Amber Arnold, who entered the contest with a 4-0 deficit, gave up only two hits in 5.1 innings of work while throwing seven strikeouts.
