LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Junior Leslie Macedo (Livermore, Calif) tallied her first career multi-home run game and drove in a career-high seven runs as the Miami University softball team (4-2) dropped Morehead State, 10-2, in its second game at the Troy Cox Invitational. Macedo clubbed a first-inning grand slam and added a three-run blast in the second, giving her 16 RBIs and a .684 batting average (13-for-19) through the first six games of the season.
At the New Mexico State Softball Complex, the RedHawks top four hitters in the lineup went a combined 7-for-11 and drove in all 10 runs as the Miami offense reached the ten-run mark for the third time this season. The win also gave Miami its second consecutive run-rule win as it defeated George Mason, 12-4, in its tournament opener.
Miami got on the board before Morehead State recorded an out as Macedo's first career grand slam staked the RedHawks to an early 4-0 lead. After a pair of singles and a walk put the first three batters on base, Macedo cranked a 1-0 pitch over the rightfield fence for her second home run of the season.
Four two-out runs in the top of the second extended Miami's lead to 8-0. Following two quick outs and a single by freshman Ashley Gartland (Tempe, Ariz.), freshman Alexis Javier (Whittier, Calif.) plated the RedHawks' first run in the inning by doubling home Gartland. After a throwing error extended the inning, Macedo made the Eagles pay for their miscue with her second round-tripper of the game, depositing a three-run line drive over the right centerfield wall.
Miami added two more runs in the top of the third as a two-out, two-RBI double by Gartland put the RedHawks up 10-0. After a fielder's choice and an infield single by junior Ashley Nieman (Richmond, Mich.) put runners at first and second with two outs, Gartland slapped a double to left centerfield, plating both runners.

Miami's win moved it to 9-0 all time versus the Eagles. Since the series began in 1978, Miami has won nine straight.
Freshman Kelly Cabana (Irvine, Calif.) earned her first collegiate win (1-0), striking out four in four innings in the circle. At the plate, Gartland had a perfect 3-for-3 performance, notching a pair of singles and a double while driving in two runs. Macedo was the only other Miami batter with multiple-hits, finishing 2-for-3 with her pair of home runs.
Miami resumes action in the Troy Cox Invitational tomorrow at 9 a.m. when it faces Texas State.
