Kellyn Tate enters her third season at Miami. Tate's offensive mentoring has already led to some impressive performances by the RedHawk hitters.
In 2008, five RedHawk hitters were named to All-MAC teams, including a program record four to the first team. Tate oversaw the improvement of senior Breanna Robinson, who going into the year was a career .241 hitter. In 2008, Robinson hit .360 and hit a school record 11 home runs. She also hit .420 in conference only games, which ranked second.
With Tate's assistance in 2007, Miami set four offensive team records in at-bats (1,632), RBI (191), walks (150), and hits (423). Junior Halle Popson was named the Batting Champion for the Mid-American Conference after hitting for an overall average of .387 and .453 in conference games.
Prior to coming to Oxford, Tate spent three seasons at Texas Tech (2003-06), and served as an assistant coach with current Miami head coach Kelly Kovach Schoenly at Penn State (1998-2001).
She currently lives in Oxford.
Coach Schoenly on Kellyn Tate: "Kellyn has an amazing competitive background from which to pull to help our athletes. Her strengths within our staff are her passion for learning, her enthusiasm, and her ability to see the different teaching styles that are needed for the different personalities on our team. She has put in a lot of work with our hitters in the offseason and I can't wait to see outcomes."
