OXFORD, Ohio-Following a stellar season that carried it to a second consecutive Mid-American Conference Tournament title and the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Miami University's women's soccer team placed four members on the National Soccer Coaches of America Association's (NSCAA) Great Lakes Region team.

Andrea Cunningham (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley), a 2000 NSCAA first-team All-American and the 2001 MAC Player of the Year, notched first-team honors, while Katie Karlander (Carmel, Ind./Syracuse) was named to the second team, and Danielle Berkemeier (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield)and Danielle Altiero (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington) were selected to the third team. Miami's four overall selections tied the RedHawks with Notre Dame for most selections from one team.

Cunningham, a first-team all-MAC selection, led the league in regular-season scoring and finished the season with an impressive 15 goals and 34 points. The junior, who netted a Miami record six game-winning goals on the year, became the first Miami soccer player in history to reach 100 career points and is the MAC's all-time scoring leader. Cunningham earned first-team NSCAA all-region plaudits for the second straight season and was a third-team all-region honoree as a freshman.

Karlander, a junior transfer from Syracuse, sparked Miami's defense during the 2001 campaign, posting an impressive 0.96 goals against average and Miami record 7.5 shutouts. A second-team all-MAC selection, Karlander is the only Miami goalkeeper ever to earn all-region or all-conference recognition. The junior has 22.5 shutouts and 295 saves thus far in her collegiate career.

Following an impressive postseason in which she tallied six goals in five postseason contests, including three game-winners, Berkemeier was honored as a third-team NSCAA all-region selection. The junior finished the season leading Miami and the MAC in scoring with 15 goals and eight assists for a total of 38 points. A first-team all-MAC selection, Berkemeier ranked among the MAC's top three in goals, assists and points. After enjoying the highest scoring season of any midfielder in Miami history, Altiero rounded out Miami's all-Great Lakes Region selections with a third-team selection. A first-team all-MAC pick, Altiero contributed five goals and nine assists on the year, while helping pace a Miami offense that led the MAC in scoring. Altiero twice tied a Miami record by dishing three assists in a game and helped in Miami's MAC postseason run by tallying two goals and three assists.

As a team, Miami finished the 2001 season at 15-7-1 after bowing to the University of Dayton, 2-0, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Previously, Miami had claimed the 2001 MAC Tournament title with a 3-1 defeat of Central Michigan and captured its first NCAA Tournament win with a 1-0 upset of nationally-ranked West Virginia. Head Coach Bobby Kramig's team returns all but one starter next season, including nearly 90 percent of its scoring.
