Hays ended her Miami career last month with nine career points (one goal, seven assists) including four during in her final season in the Red and White. Miami has had a player on either the Academic All-MAC team or the MAC academic honor roll every year since the program began in 1997.
“Danielle Hays selection to the MAC All Academic team is the final jewel in her crown,” Miami head coach Bobby Kramig said. “To be recognized by the conference for her performance both on the field and in the classroom speaks very highly of her dedication and commitment to excellence.”
A native of Apex, N.C., Hays, recorded her first point of the season against DePaul when she sent in a corner kick that found the head of Brooke Livingston and gave the RedHawks an early lead over the Blue Demons. Hays picked up her second assist of the season in a 3-1 win over Northern Illinois on Oct. 24. The win was the first road victory of the season for the Red and White and kept the team in the hunt for a spot in the MAC tournament. It was another corner kick that fell to the head of Eva Candia. The goal was the game-winner for Miami.
Miami would lock up a spot in the MAC tournament two days later when Hays came through again for the RedHawks. She scored the first goal of her career in the 72nd minute against Western Michigan on Nov. 26. The goal was the game-winner and sealed up a spot for Miami in the MAC tournament. Hays was named second-team All-MAC and is working on a degree in zoology.
