OXFORD, Ohio-Following a spectacular Mid-American Conference Tournament performance in which she tallied five goals while leading Miami to its second consecutive MAC Tournament title, junior forward Danielle Berkemeier (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) has been honored as a member of Soccer Buzz Magazine's Elite Team of the Week.
A big-game player, Berkemeier tallied the game-winning goal in Miami's 7-0 thrashing of Buffalo in the MAC Quarterfinals, and then preceded to reel off consecutive two-goal outings in the semifinals versus Eastern Michigan and the championship versus Central Michigan. The junior, who was named to the MAC All-Tournament team, recorded the game-winning goal in the MAC Championship match for the second straight season.
For her career, Berkemeier has tallied 10 postseason goals in 10 postseason outings, including six game-winning scores.
Joining Berkemeier on the the Elite Team are 10 other players from across the nation, including fellow local standouts Ann Thomas of Cincinnati and Meghan McKnight of Dayton. Other standouts recognized for their performances over the past week included forward Alyssa Ramsey of North Carolina, midfielder Andi Sellers of Florida and midfielder Kristin Teter of Texas.
Berkemeier and Miami travel to Morgantown, W.Va., Friday to take on No. 19 West Virginia at 7 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The RedHawks are making their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
