OXFORD, Ohio--Miami University's women's soccer team will make a return trip to the site of its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2000, traveling to Ann Arbor, Mich., to face the Michigan State University Spartans on Friday, Nov. 15 in the NCAA Tournament first round at 11 a.m. This is the RedHawks' third-consecutive NCAA Tournament berth.
The winner of the Miami/Michigan State match-up will face the winner of the University of Michigan versus Oakland University contest, which is being played at 2 p.m. on Friday, on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 11:30 a.m
The RedHawks enter the tournament with an all-time Mid-American Conference best 18-2-2 mark and with MAC regular-season and tournament titles. The Red and White are led by seniors Shaedyn Cousino (Cincinnati, OH/Indian Hill), Danielle Berkemeier (Fairfield, OH/Fairfield) and Andrea Cunningham (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley). Cousino is a four-time all-MAC performer, Berkemeier was tabbed the 2002 MAC Player of the Year, while Cunningham was the 2001 MAC Player of the Year.
In its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2000, Miami lost at No. 25 Michigan in a thrilling 4-3 in double overtime contest. Last season, Miami upset nationally-ranked West Virginia, 1-0, in the first round of the tournament on the Mountaineers home field, before dropping a 2-0 decision to Dayton in the second round.
