OXFORD, Ohio -
Miami University forward Sara Lund has been named the Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year in women's soccer as announced by the MAC office on Thursday evening.
Lund (Malmo, Sweden) was also named to the All-MAC First Team in her rookie campaign, as well as being named a member of the All-MAC Freshman Team. Fellow RedHawk Julie Thompson (Glenview, Ill.) joined Lund on the All-Freshman Team.
Lund scored 19 points on seven goals and five assists for the RedHawks. Her seven goals also ranked third in the MAC, while her five assists place her in a tie for sixth in on the league assists list. Lund netted goals in three-straight MAC games against Ohio, Western Michigan and Northern Illinois on Oct. 7, 12 and 14. She ranked second in the conference with 68 shots on the year, averaging 3.78 per game.
Lund is the first RedHawk since Danielle Berkemeier in 1999 to be named the MAC Freshman of the Year.
Thompson scored five goals on the season from her forward position and opened her college career with a hat trick against Morehead State on Aug. 31. She registered a goal one game later at Cincinnati on Sept. 2 and netted a goal against Western Michigan on Oct. 12, a 4-0 win over the Broncos.
Miami ended the season with a 6-10-3 record overall and a 4-6-1 mark in the MAC. The RedHawks fell at Ball State, 1-0, in the first round of the MAC Tournament on Nov. 4.
