OXFORD, Ohio - For the second consecutive season, a Miami soccer player has been named Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, as senior Danielle Berkemeier (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) earned the top honor from her peers Thursday night at the MAC Women's Soccer Awards Banquet.

Berkemeier led the Red and White with 15 goals and 35 points this season. The senior forward also added five assists, while the RedHawks set a school record for winning percentage with a 16-2-2 record. The Red and White also notched the most MAC wins in conference history (11) on its way to an 11-1-0 mark. Berkemeier stands on top of the MAC all-time point list with 139 points, stands second in all-time goals scored with 56 and ranking tied for third for career assists with 27.

As a junior, Berkemeier led the MAC in points scored. Berkemeier has been named to the all-MAC team; NSCAA all-region team and first-team all-Ohio team the past three years.

Along with being named MAC Player of the Year, Berkemeier was honored as a first-team all-MAC selection, marking the fourth consecutive season that she has received all-MAC recognition. The 1999 MAC Freshman of the Year and third-team freshman Soccerbuzz all-American, Berkemeier was a first-team all-MAC selection last season and in 1999 along with being a second-team honoree in 2000.

Joining Berkemeier on the first-team is last year's MAC Player of the Year, senior Andrea Cunnningham (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley), who finished second on the RedHawks in goals with 12, and assists with five. Senior Danielle Altiero (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington), who currently holds the most goals in Miami history by a RedHawk midfielder, also earned first-team accolades. Cunningham, who has been named to the first-team for three consecutive seasons, stands atop the MAC all-time list in goals, second in all-time points and tenth in MAC history in assists. Altiero is the third RedHawk to be named to the first-team for the second consecutive season after she scored five goals and six assists this year.

Senior Audry Wieman (Fisherville, Ohio/Fisherville) and sophomore Ashley Swinehart (Worthington, Ohio/Worthington) earned first-team MAC honors for the first time in their RedHawk careers. Wieman has been the focal point of Miami's record-setting defense that has shut out nine opponents, and led the MAC in goals against average, allowing only 15 goals in 20 games. Swinehart stands third in the MAC with seven assists, and is tied for third on the team with five goals on the season.

Also honored from the RedHawks was second-team selection senior Shaedyn Cousino (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill), who joined Cunningham and Berkemeier as a four-time all-MAC honoree. An NSCAA third-team Scholar All-American, Cousino tallied two goals and three assists this season while serving as a dominant presence in the Miami midfield.
