OXFORD, Ohio -
The Mid-American Conference announced its all-conference teams soccer teams on Wednesday and Miami was well represented by Sara Lund and Danielle Hays.
|
Lund was named to the first-team for the second consecutive season. The sophomore from Malmo, Sweden was named the freshman of the year in 2007 and did not disappoint in '08. She finished sixth in the conference in points per game and tied for third in goals (8). Lund also handed out two assists on the season. Lund joins Kathleen Vistica, Danielle Ariero and Andrea Cunningham as the only RedHawks to earn back-to-back first-team conference laurels and now has a chance to catch Cunningham, who is the only Miami women's soccer player to win three consecutive first-team all-conference awards.
"Sara Lund is an extraordinary player and her selection to the all conference team is very well deserved," said head coach Bobby Kramig.

Lund was not alone on the All-MAC squad as Hays picked up second-team honors in her final season with the RedHawks. Hays was solid in the middle of the field for the Red and White and she controlled the tempo and flow for Miami. Hays picked up four points on the season with two assists off corner kicks and her first career goal. The goal could not have come at a better time for the RedHawks as Hays found the net in the 77th minute of a late-season road match against Western Michigan. The goal was the game winner and put Miami into the MAC tournament.
"Danielle Hays had an exceptional year for us," Kramig said. "I am very pleased she has been recognized by the other teams in the conference for her efforts." Since 2000, Miami women's soccer has earned 25 All-MAC honors (17 first-team; eight second-team) and has had five players named the conference Player of the Year.
