REDHAWKS WELCOME 13TH RANKED PURDUE UNIVERSITY TO OXFORD: The RedHawk seniors have written and rewritten the Miami record books over the past four years, but they will get the opportunity to do something that no RedHawk team has ever done when they host a nationally-ranked team for the first time in program history.

In the final regular season game of the prolific careers of seven RedHawk players, the Red and White has a chance to knock off 13th ranked Purdue. The Boilermakers bring a 12-3-1 mark to Miami Soccer Field.

Although the Halloween contest is Trick or Treat Day for the RedHawks, Miami will not be spooked by the highly ranked Old Gold and Black. Miami knocked off 19th ranked West Virginia last year in Morgantown, W.Va. during the 2001 NCAA Tournament, lost a tightly contested contest to nationally-ranked Michigan in the 2000 NCAA Tournament, and suffered a narrow one-goal loss to ranked Kentucky during the 2000 regular season.

This will be the first meeting between the two schools although Miami visited West Lafayette for the Purdue Boilermaker Classic last year, where the two schools did not face each other.

Purdue has five redshirt seniors that have been with the program since its inception and one other senior that will lead the Boilermakers into Oxford for the first time. Two juniors lead the Boilermakers in points. Annette Kent and Jennie Moppert both have six goals and three assists to lead the Old Gold and Black.

A LOOK BACK: Collecting two more wins over the weekend, the women's soccer has seven consecutive wins and won 14 of their last 15 games. Freshman Leigh Terry and junior Emily Smith combined for a shutout after allowing no goals against Wright State in a 3-0 win on a rainy Friday afternoon. The RedHawks posted their 15th win when they knocked off Marshall, 2-1, on Sunday. Senior Danielle Berkemeier and sophomore Ashley Swinehart scored goals in both games over the weekend.

MAC RECORDS: In Mid-American Conference history, no team had won 11 conference games until Miami defeated Marshall on Friday. Miami's 11 wins broke the 2001 Ohio Bobcat record for most conference wins in a season. Ohio went 10-2 during its 2001 season. The RedHawk .917 conference winning percentage is the highest in MAC history at the completion of the conference season. With the win over Marshall, the RedHawks tied the 1997 Northern Illinois squad, 1998 Ohio and Northern Illinois squads, and the 1999 Eastern Michigan squad with only one loss at the end of the conference season. None of the four teams accumulated 10 wins because the league did not have 13 MAC women's soccer schools until last season.

MISS OCTOBER: Typically known for her play in November, senior forward Danielle Berkemeier has gotten an early start this year by scoring in seven of the eight Miami games played in October. Berkemeier has eight goals total in the month of October.

Berkemeier still hasn't give up her title of Miss November either. Through 12 post-season games over the past three seasons, Berkemeier has netted 11 goals, including a remarkable seven game-winning strikes.

The senior forward leads the team with 14 goals and 31 points this season.

QUICK START: Not only did Miami set MAC records with its 11-1-0 conference mark, the RedHawks also set Miami program marks. Until this year, Miami's best MAC finish came when they finished 8-3-0 in the MAC during the 1999 season. Last year, the RedHawks went 8-3-1 through the MAC season. The Red and White also eclipsed the 15-3-0 mark set in 1999 for the best record in Miami history through 18 games with a 15-2-1 record. Before Friday's game, Miami stood a half-game behind the 1999 start when the 1999 team opened the season with a 14-2-0 record through 16 games.

AU"WARD" DRY: For the first time in RedHawk program history, the Miami Alumni Soccer Captains recognized senior defender Audry Wieman with the first annual "Captains Award." The "Captains Award" is presented annually to the Miami Soccer player who represents the qualities of dedication, determination, commitment to team and teammates in accordance with the high standards set by past Miami Soccer Captains.

A four-year member of the Miami Soccer team, Wieman has been the focal point of this year's record-setting defense that has shutout nine opponents and led the MAC in goals against average. A Zoology major from Fisherville, Ky. Wieman has set the highest standards of commitment, dedication and the pursuit of team and personal excellence.

HOME SWEET HOME: Miami has proven the definition of home-field advantage by going 29-6-2 at home since the beginning of 1999. Miami has posted a 36-16-4 record in its six-year history. The Red and White holds a 7-1-1 record at Miami Soccer Field during the 2002 season. The RedHawks excelled at home in 2001 with a 5-2-1 mark. The pinnacle of its home success came in 1999 when Miami went 9-0-0 at Miami Soccer Field.

The Red and White has proven they are good away from Miami Soccer Field as well. Since Sept. 9 of 2001 the RedHawks have posted a 15-3-0 mark in Oxford.

HOT KEEPERS: Miami has shut out nine of its last 15 opponents and allowed only nine goals during that time period.

Freshman goalkeeper Leigh Terry and junior Emily Smith tied Miami's all-time mark of nine shut outs after allowing no goals against Wright State on Friday. Terry leads the goalkeepers with 5.5 shutouts, while senior Katie Karlander has contributed 3.0 shutouts and Smith has .5 with her contribution on Friday. The nine shutouts eclipses the eight that last year's goalkeepers recorded.

MOVIN' ON UP: The RedHawks tied their highest rating in school history, seventh place in the Soccerbuzz.com Great Lakes Region rankings this week. Miami found itself rated ninth in the NSCAA Great Lakes Region poll for the second consecutive week.

This is the second time in school history that the RedHawks have have been rated in three consecutive Great Lakes Region polls. Miami was recieving votes two weeks prior to their ranking, making it the first time the RedHawks had their name on five consecutive polls.

Miami ended the season last year with seventh place in the Soccerbuzz.com Great Lakes Region rankings.

TWO OF A KIND: Danielle Berkemeier scored two goals this weekend to pad her lead in the Mid-American Conference all-time point list. Berkemeier scored a goal on Friday against Wright State and the game winner against Marshall on Sunday. Senior Andrea Cunningham added an assist on the first goal against Marshall on Sunday. Cunningham has 129 all-time points while Berkemeier carries 136 career points.

Berkemeier and Cunningham are the only players in Miami soccer history (men's or women's), and second and third in MAC women's soccer history, to surpass the century mark for career points.

REDHAWK PROMOTIONS: Halftime of every home game offers one randomly drawn Miami student the chance to kick a goal into an open spot on a blocked net to earn $10,000. Fans will also have a chance to catch mini Adidas soccer balls, which will be thrown into the crowd after every RedHawk goal scored at the Miami Soccer Field.

In addition, the RedHawk soccer team will hold a different giveaway promotion for every home game throughout the 2002 season.

Oct. 31, Purdue Trick or Treat with the RedHawks (Wear your Halloween costume and receive candy from the Miami and Purdue players after the game) The Miami Soccer Team is sponsored by Moonshine Printing.

REDHAWKS FIGHTING CANCER: The Miami women's soccer has teamed up with the Greater Cincinnati Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to combat the most common form of cancer among women. For every home goal Miami scores during its 2002 season, the women's soccer program will donate $20 to the foundation.

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Research Program is regarded as one of the most innovative and responsive grant programs in breast cancer today. As a pioneer in the funding of ground-breaking breast cancer research, the Komen Foundation is often the only source of funding for cutting-edge breast cancer research, much of which has led to landmark discoveries in the quest to find a cure for and eventually prevent breast cancer.

A representative of the Cincinnati affiliate will be on hand for Miami's Oct. 31 match with Purdue to take part in a special donation ceremony.
