Danielle Berkemeier (Fairfield, OH/Fairfield) was honored as the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week after scoring three goals over the weekend and helping the RedHawk team clinch their first MAC regular-season championship in program history.
The senior forward scored her 10th goal of the season at Northern Illinois to help give the RedHawks a 3-1 victory on Friday. On Sunday, Berkemeier scored her 11th and 12th goals in a 3-1 win over Western Michigan.
Berkemeier's team-leading 27 points have helped the RedHawks claim 10 MAC wins, equaling the most single-season wins by any team in MAC history.
With six points over the weekend, Berkemeier reclaimed the lead on the MAC all-time point list from teammate Andrea Cunningham with 131 points. Berkemeier currently stands one goal behind Cunningham in the MAC for all-time career goals with 53, and fourth in the MAC for all-time career assists with 25.
Berkemeier is no stranger to accolades earned. The senior forward led the MAC in points scored during the 2001 season. Berkemeier has been named to the all-MAC team, NSCAA all-region team and first-team all-Ohio team all three years. During the 1999 season, Berkemeier was named MAC Freshman of the Year and earned third-team freshman all-American status from Soccerbuzz.com.
