Senior Andrea Cunningham (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) added another accolade to her impressive career by earning Mid-American Conference Player of the Week after she scored the game-winner in the 74th minute against the second-place team, Ball State to take a two-game lead in the Mid-American Conference with only three league games remaining.
Cunningham rocketed a goal past Ball State goalkeeper K.D. Moreland off an assist from Megan Shapiro (Grosse Point, MI/South) in the 74th minute of the Sunday afternoon contest. The senior forward also had an assist on the game-winner to teammate Danielle Berkemeier (Fairfield, OH/Fairfield) in the 1-0 overtime victory over Butler on Friday.
Cunningham has seven goals and two assists on her 2002 campaign. The game-winner over Ball State was her first of the season.
The RedHawk captain currently stands first in the MAC for all-time career goals scored with 52, ninth in the MAC for all-time career assists with 19, and two points behind Berkemeier's 125 all-time career points for the MAC lead. She led the MAC in goals during her sophomore and junior seasons while earning first-team all-MAC accolades and becoming the first Miami player to be named MAC Player of the Year during her junior year. She also has been named all-Ohio for the past three years.
