The Miami soccer team rebounded from their only Mid-American Conference loss on Friday to post a 2-1 victory over Eastern Michigan at Miami Soccer Field on Sunday to bring the RedHawk overall record to 9-2-1 and 7-1-0 in the MAC.

Senior Danielle Berkemeier (Fairfield, OH/Fairfield) set the tone for the RedHawks by scoring on the first shot taken by a Miami player in the sixth minute of the contest. Junior Tricia Gill (Fairfield, OH/Fairfield) found Berkemeier making a run towards the goal. Berkemeier promptly hit the ball right at Eastern Michigan goalkeeper Aryn McCumber who saved the shot, but Berkemeier tapped the ensuing rebound in the goal.

Eastern Michigan answered right back in the same fashion when Heather Pedersen's shot off a direct kick was initially saved by Miami freshman goalkeeper Leigh Terry (Grand Haven, MI/Grand Haven) until Jessica Hupe followed the shot by scoring on the rebound while the clock read 8:27.

After 64 minutes of scoreless play, redshirt junior Danielle Altiero (Upper Arlington, OH/Upper Arlington) scored the game-winner for Miami. Sophomore Ashley Swinehart (Worthington, OH/Worthington) started the sequence on a flip throw-in from the right sideline that sailed into the mouth of the goal. McCumber batted the ball in the air, then freshman Emily Hurd (Marietta, GA/Westminster) kept the ball alive for Altiero who placed the ball into the back of the net while the ball was still in the air.

The RedHawks held a slight advantage over the Eagles in shots, 11-10. Terry saved five Eastern Michigan shots while McCumber stopped two Miami shots.

The Red and White head to Indianapolis, Ind. on Friday to face Butler at 7 p.m. in a non-conference match. On Sunday, Miami will face Ball State in Muncie, Ind. at 1 p.m. in a battle of first and second-place teams.
