REDHAWKS CONCLUDE NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE WITH UTAH: With four consecutive wins under its belt, Miami University's women's soccer team ends a six-game roadstand Sunday when it hosts the University of Utah in its final non-conference match this season.

Utah, which currently stands at 2-2-0, is off to a solid start, recording wins versus South Florida (4-1) and Arizona State (1-0) while tumbling to nationally ranked foes No. 20 Florida (5-2) and No. 15 Kentucky (3-0). Head Coach Amy Winslow, in her seventh season, has guided the Utes to four winning seasons in six years, including a first-place league finish in 1999 and a second-place finish last season. She is a two-time conference coach of the year.

The Utes return both of their leading scorers from a year ago, including Amy Kofoed, who tallied 16 goals and earned first-team all-Mountain West honors in 2000, and Shauna Gurr-Bingham, who totaled 12 assists while earning second-team all-league status.

THE SERIES: Miami and Utah are meeting for the first time. Miami, which is 3-2 versus non-conference opponents this season, has never faced a Mountain West Conference foe. This match marks Miami's only 2001 home contest versus a non-conference opponent.

HOME SWEET HOME: After opening the season with six consecutive road contests, the RedHawks and their fans are looking forward to Sunday's long-awaited home opener. Miami historically has been very strong on its home turf, posting a stellar 24-13-2 (.641) record. Over the past two seasons, the Red and White has been even stronger on its home field, amassing 17 wins and just three losses for a remarkable .850 winning percentage. Overall, Miami has won 18 of its last 21 games at Miami Soccer Field.

REDHAWKS DEFEAT CHIPPEWAS: Led by a goal and an assist from Danielle Berkemeier (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield), Miami overcame a tough Central Michigan team to earn a 2-1 MAC victory. The RedHawks tallied an Ashley Swinehart (Worthington, Ohio/Worthington) goal just over a minute into the second half to break a 1-1 tie and capture the win. Swinehart's goal, the first of her collegiate career, came at 46:58 when the freshman collected a deflected Berkemeier shot and deposited it in the goal from 12 yards out. Berkemeier was credited with the assist. Miami struck first just over six minutes into the contest, when Berkemeier headed off a dangerous pass deep in the Chippewas' backfield and beat goaltender Kari Alexander for a go-ahead score. Miami netminder Katie Karlander (Carmel, Ind./Syracuse) earned her fourth consecutive win in goal despite surrendering her first goal in more than 330 minutes. The junior transfer totaled eight saves.
