After starting the Mid-American Conference season 2-0-0 and 4-1-1 overall, Miami University women's soccer team was dealt a blow when senior goalkeeper Katie Karlander (Carmel, IN/Syracuse) broke her leg in practice on Wednesday afternoon and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. Freshman Leigh Terry (Grand Haven, MI/Grand Haven) will make her MAC debut and second Miami start when the Red and White travel to Bowling Green on Friday.

"Karlander fractured her tibia while trying to make a save," said athletic trainer Sam Piterra.

Karlander, a 2001 second-team all-MAC and second-team NSCAA all-Great Lakes Region selection, is on a streak of three shutouts and 326 minutes without surrendering a goal. The 326 minutes of scoreless play breaks a Miami record that dates back to the RedHawks' 2000 MAC Tournament Championship run in which they had 317 scoreless minutes in victories over Ohio, Buffalo, and Bowling Green in double overtime. The streak of shutouts is the most for Karlander since she had four consecutive shutouts while a sophomore at Syracuse University, blanking Illinois, Massachusetts, Buffalo and St. Bonaventure for the Orangewomen.

Terry made her debut for the RedHawks on Sept. 1 in a 2-0 loss to Hofstra.
