SWEET SWEDE: LUND NAMED MAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sara Lund (Sr., Malmo, Sweden) earned Mid-American Conference player of the week award honors following her performance in the RedHawks season opener Aug. 22.
Lund started the season off with a bang against Morehead State with the first hat trick of her career. After the RedHawks went down 1-0 to Morehead State Lund put up three unanswered goals to give the Red and White a 3-1 victory.
Lund scored all three goals in a hard earned fashion. Lund scored her first goal by beating a defender and then firing a shot hitting goalie Sam Yocke and getting into the net. The second goal by Lund had to be the most unlikely as she hit the near post and the ball ran along the goal line striking the far post and then entering the goal before Yocke could fall on it. The third goal of the day by the 5 foot, 7 inch sophomore was a brilliant sliding shot.
Lund is not the only international player for the RedHawks as she is one of five players from Sweden (Eva Candia, Sarah Dessfelt, Nathalie Hillgren and Alexandra Karlsson). Four are from Malmo, a port city on the southern tip of the country. Dessfelt is from Vellinge.Miami also has four player from Canada, Courtney Clarke, Haley Clark, Krysti Clarke and career saves leader at Miami Krista Pace.

Lund finished off her hat trick in the 48th minute after Stephanie Wilson (Sr. Elma, N.Y.) tipped the ball, Lund came sliding in a beat the keeper to close out the scoring. The weather picked up in the 53rd minute bringing a stoppage in play that last 50 minutes. After the delay, Miami killed the clock and Krista Pace (JR.
