OXFORD, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference (MAC) announced on Tuesday that Sara Lund (So., Malmo, Sweden) was the conference player of the week for Aug. 26.
Lund recorded the first hat trick of her career as the RedHawks defeated Morehead State, 3-1 Aug. 22. After Miami went down 1-0 early, Lund tied the game in the 16th minute with a hard shot that hit Eagles goalkeeper Sam Yocke and went in.
Lund was far from finished as she scored again about 13 minutes later. She fired a shot at the near post that hit the pipe ran along the goal line hitting the far post and then going in the net. Lund finished off her hat trick in the 48th minute after Stephanie Wilson tipped the ball, Lund came sliding in a beat the keeper to close out the scoring.
"Sara may be the best player to ever compete in MAC women's soccer," Miami head coach Bobby Kramig said. "She combines great athleticism, skill and tactical understanding. She is a sophisticated player. Her efforts last Friday reflect her passion for the game, her team and her teammates. We are very proud to have her playing for Miami University."
The six points are the most in a game in her time at Miami. The game was the second muliti-goal of her career. Following the 2007 season Lund earned three post season awards from the MAC, first-team all-league, all-freshmen team honors and the 2007 Freshman of the year award. Lund and the rest of the RedHawks will be in action this Sunday, Aug. 31 on Miami Soccer Field against the University of Michigan, the game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
