TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -
The Miami University women’s soccer team kicked off its 2010 spring slate in strong fashion Saturday afternoon, knocking off Indiana State 1-0 at Memorial Stadium.
“It was a good start. The game went about as we expected,” Miami head coach Bobby Kramig said. “It was our first spring game so a lot of it was just about kicking the rust off and remembering how to play and what we’re supposed to do. The first 20 minutes of the game were a bit disorganized but it got considerably better as the game went on.”
Redshirt freshman Kelly Sullivan (Wilton, Conn.) scored the game’s only goal for the RedHawks mid-way through the first half, as she got on the end of a ball at the far post and finished it strong. Rising junior Rachelle Boff (Naples, Fla.) pitched the shutout in goal for the Red & White.
“I thought we got better and better as the game went on, which is a very good sign,” Kramig said. “We had a number of players playing in new or different positions and I thought they all performed well, so for our first effort of the spring it was pretty good.”
Miami continues its spring schedule next Saturday, March 27, when the RedHawks host Xavier at Miami Soccer Field at 1 p.m.
