OXFORD, Ohio-Fresh off back-to-back Mid-American Conference Tournament titles and NCAA Tournament appearances, Miami University's women's soccer program announced today the signing of three high school seniors to National Letters of Intent.
According to head coach Bobby Kramig, the additions of Lindsay Dunmead (Northville, Mich./Northville), Emily Hurd (Marietta, Ga./Westminster) and Leigh Terry (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) provide the RedHawks with immediate depth and tremendous potential.
"We're thrilled that three such terrific student-athletes have chosen to continue their careers at Miami University," Kramig said. "We see tremendous potential in all three of our signees and expect them to make important contributions to the continued success of our program."
Dunmead, a 5-foot-7 defender, hails from a successful Northville High School program that has earned consecutive regional championship game berths and appeared in the Michigan state semifinals two seasons ago. A participant in Michigan's Olympic Development Program (ODP), Dunmead is a two-time Detroit News All-Metro West honoree as well as a two-time all-state, all-region and all-district selection.
Hurd, who joins former high school teammate Laura Freel (Atlanta, Ga., Westminster) on the RedHawks' 2002 roster, is a two-time all-city selection who has led a successful Westminster prep program in scoring over the past two seasons. During her sophomore campaign, the 5-foot-5 forward totaled 17 goals and 13 assists while helping Westminster to a third-place finish in the state.
Terry, a 5-foot-9 goalkeeper, has helped Grand Haven High School to a three-year record of 49-10-3, including a regional championship appearance in 2000. As a junior, Terry earned first-team all-area, all-district and all-region status while also being named honorable mention all-state. She is a part of the same Michigan ODP team as Dunmead.
Miami, which finished the 2001 season with loss in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, returns all but two of its starters and more than 90 percent of its scoring from a team that went 15-7-1 and 8-3-1 in the Mid-American Conference. Over the past three seasons, Miami has posted a combined 45-18-2 record and made three consecutive appearances in the MAC Championship match.
