OXFORD, Ohio-Miami University's Danielle Altiero (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington) was honored today as one of 23 student-athletes selected to the Verizon Academic All-America District IV University Division Women's Soccer Team, which was unveiled Thursday.

Altiero, who turned in the highest-scoring season of any midfielder in the history of Miami women's soccer, started all 23 games of a historic season that carried the RedHawks to their second consecutive MAC Tournament championship and the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The redshirt sophomore totaled five goals and nine assists on the way to first-team all-MAC and all-Ohio honors. She is an art major with a 3.60 grade point average.

This year's team was voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) from District IV, which encompasses Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To qualify, a student-athlete must own a minimum grade point average of 3.2 and be either a starter or key reserve for their team. This year marks the first time a women's soccer team has been selected in the 50-year history of the Academic All-America program.
