OXFORD, Ohio-After three years of dominating the midfield for the Miami University women's soccer team, junior Shaedyn Cousino (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) has been recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for her prowess in the classroom, earning third-team Scholar All-America status.
The first member of Miami's women's soccer team to earn the honor, Cousino is one of 33 NCAA Division I women's soccer players nationwide to earn recognition on one of the three teams.
Cousino, a 3.30 marketing major, was a vital cog in a RedHawk team that advanced to the second round of the 2001 NCAA Tournament and finished the season receiving votes in the final NSCAA Top 25 poll. A second-team all-MAC and MAC all-tournament selection, Cousino was one of two Miami players to start all 23 matches. She totaled two goals and three assists on the season, but her major contributions were in helping control play in the middle of the midfield.
During her career, Cousino has earned all-MAC and all-Ohio recognition in each of her first three seasons. She is part of a Miami junior class that has posted an incredible 45-18-2 (.708) record while making three consecutive MAC Championship match appearances, winning two MAC Tournament titles and earning two NCAA Tournament berths.
Cousino, the second generation of her family to earn All-America status, is the daughter of former Miami football All-American Brad Cousino and the sister of current football linebacker Cortt Cousino.
