TOLEDO, Ohio - The eighth-seeded Miami women's soccer team gave No. 1-seed Toledo all it could handle in the quarterfinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament Sunday, but came up just short 1-0.

Junior goalkeeper Krista Pace (Toronto, Ontario) made seven saves but Toledo's Molly Cornwell netted her sixth goal of the season in the 21st minute and the lead held up. She blasted a low shot from about 25-yards out that split the Miami defense and ended up in the back of the net.

Despite holding the lead, UT kept its foot on the accelerator and came close to doubling its advantage right before the intermission. Brittany Hensler slid in behind the RedHawks' defense and was one-on-one with Pace, but the Miami netminder made a diving save to keep it a one-goal difference at the break. Six of Pace's seven saves were made in the first half.

The RedHawks' best chance to register the equalizer occurred of a volley by Eva Candia at 76:08. The midfielder came streaking down the middle of the UT goalbox and received a pass from about eight-yards out, but her ensuing shot sailed just over the crossbar.

UT finished the match with a sizable 17-5 edge in shots and a 16-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Toledo continues in the tournament by hosting Bowling Green in the semifinals on Friday, while Miami ends its season with a 6-13-1 record.
