OXFORD, Ohio-Miami closed out its regular-season home schedule and recognized its senior class in style Sunday afternoon at Miami soccer field, blanking Bowling Green State University, 3-0, in a rematch of last season's Mid-American Conference Championship match.

Following a pregame ceremony to recognize its 2001 senior class, which includes Quinn Brady (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock), Courtney Carey (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula), Julie Grosso (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto), Brooke Paul (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) and Sarah Paul (Dayton, Ohio/Northmont), Miami went at the Falcons early and claimed a 1-0 lead. Andrea Cunningham (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) netted the goal after taking a pass from Katie Milligan (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville), splitting a pair of BGSU defenders and firing a shot that deflected off a third Falcon defender and into the net.

Miami managed just two more shots in the first period of the match, but again seized the initiative in the second half, lighting the scoreboard with a brilliant Danielle Berkemeier (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) goal in the 77th minute. Set up by a perfectly-placed serve from Grosso, Berkemeier ran under the ball and sent a header past BGSU netminder Erika Flanders for her ninth goal of the season. Freshman Laura Freel (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) rounded out the scoring just over five minutes later, sending a bullet from just outside the penalty box that skipped through Flanders' hands.

RedHawk goalkeeper Katie Karlander (Carmel, Ind./Syracuse), who's allowed just two goals in her last 587 minutes of action, made five saves on the afternoon while collecting her fifth complete-game shutout. Miami's defense collected its seventh shutout overall and now stands with a 0.97 goals against average.

"It was a fair result," Head Coach Bobby Kramig said. "We didn't play as well as we could have, so there are definitely some things we need to work on this week in practice. Regardless, it was a good win and a great way to salute our senior class."

Miami, which improved to 11-5-1 and 8-2-1 in the MAC, tied its single-season record for league wins and looks to better that mark this Thursday when it travels to face Eastern Michigan University in its regular-season finale. The RedHawks open the MAC Tournament on Nov. 6, when they host an opponent to be determined in the quarterfinal round.
