OXFORD, Ohio - Needing points to ensure they will qualify for the Mid-American Conference Tournament, the Miami RedHawk soccer team earned an important 2-0 victory over Akron Friday. Miami improves to 4-9-1 overall and 3-4-0 in the MAC. The Zips are 7-7-0 overall and 2-5-0 in the MAC.

Miami got on board in the 20th minute when Stephanie Wilson's blocked shot rebounded right back to Sara Lund, who put it into the empty net. The RedHawks got some insurance in the 30th minute when Jackie Hardek received a pass from Jodi Zwingelberg in the middle of the box and beat the Akron goalie to her right.

The game was played very wide open as Miami outshot the Zips 20-19 for the game. It was also a physical game as there were a total of four yellow cards issued, two to each team.

Miami returns to action Sunday for its final home game of the season against Ohio. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. and prior to the game the team's four seniors will be honored.
