OXFORD, Ohio - Despite a 23-7 advantage in shots, Miami University's women's soccer team was unable to avoid its first Mid-American Conference loss Thursday afternoon, tumbling to the University of Toledo 1-0 at Miami Soccer Field.

Toledo's Christine Lipper emerged from traffic in front of the net to put a shot just out of Miami goalkeeper Katie Karlander's (Carmel, Ind./Syracuse) reach in the 107th minute. The shot, which was one of just four Rocket shots on goal, handed Miami its second consecutive home loss and dropped the RedHawks to 6-4-0 and 3-1-0 in the MAC.

Miami dominated much of the first half, firing the first 10 shots on goal. Toledo threatened with under three minutes remaining, squeezing off two shots that deflected of the post, including one that was narrowly diverted by an acrobatic Karlander save. The RedHawks held a 10-2 advantage in shots and 6-1 advantage in shots on goal following the scoreless first frame.

The Red and White continued to create opportunities in the second half, placing another five shots on goal, including a Danielle Berkemeier (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) blast that deflected off the lower lip of the crossbar. Toledo, paced by goalkeeper Elise Donovan's 13 saves, held tough, forcing the contest into overtime. Miami squeezed off two more of its 13 shots on goal in overtime but could not find its way past Donovan.

"It was really just a matter of not taking advantage of opportunities," Head Coach Bobby Kramig said. "We had plenty of golden opportunities that we weren't able to finish. I'm not worried about the character of this team, though. We'll bounce back."

Miami, which had not been shut out in consecutive home appearances since 1998, fell to 0-2-0 at Miami soccer field for the first time in program history. The RedHawks, who are a flawless 6-0-0 in away games, will continue their search for a home win Sunday when they host the University of Akron.
