Final Stats

The RedHawk soccer team improved their overall record to 8-1-1 and a perfect 6-0-0 in the Mid-American Conference thanks to the two goals by junior Danielle Altiero (Upper Arlington, OH/Upper Arlington) in the 2-0 defeat of Buffalo at Miami Soccer Field.

Altiero scored the game winner for the RedHawks on Miami's third shot of the day in the 31st minute. The goal started on a flip throw-in by sophomore Ashley Swinehart (Worthington, OH/Worthington) that carried from the left sideline to Altiero who one-touched the ball in front of the goal into the far-post of the net.

The redshirt junior struck again when the clock read 84:48. Altiero sealed the victory for the Red and White after Laura Freel (Atlanta, GA/Westminster) passed the ball ahead to the streaking midfielder who dribbled past Buffalo goalkeeper Anna-Lesa Calvert to score the breakaway goal and give Miami a 2-0 lead.

"Danielle came through for us today," said head coach Bobby Kramig. "She is a big-game player and really stepped up."

Freshman goalkeeper Leigh Terry (Grand Haven, MI/Grand Haven) recorded her third career shutout and gave Miami six shutouts in the last seven games. Terry saved five Bulls shots while her counterpart; Calvert, stopped four RedHawk shots.

Miami struggled to get into the groove through the first 30 minutes of play following an emotional 3-2 victory over Ohio University on Friday night. After the 30-minute mark, the RedHawks outshot the Bulls 14-5 and took control of the contest.

"We put forth a courageous effort," said Kramig. "We hung tough through the game and gutted this one out."

Miami is the only MAC team to remain unbeaten in conference play. Buffalo stands at 2-4-4 and 2-3-1 in the MAC after Sunday's loss.

The RedHawks welcome Central Michigan to Oxford on Friday, Oct. 4th at 4 p.m. for Team Photo Day. Eastern Michigan will close the four-game homestand on Sunday, Oct. 6th at 1 p.m. The game against the Eagles is also Youth Soccer Day.
