With perhaps its best performance of the season, according to Head Coach Bobby Kramig, Miami University's women's soccer team steamed to 2-0 in the Mid-American Conference Friday night, defeating defending MAC Champion Buffalo by a 4-1 margin.

"I was really pleased with the quality of our game tonight," Kramig said. "It was a first-class effort all the way. Every MAC match is big, but to pick up a win like this on the road is something special."

Playing in soggy conditions, Miami and Buffalo were scoreless 38 minutes into the game, but a pair of RedHawk strikes less than three minutes apart quickly swung the match in Miami's favor. Danielle Altiero (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington) put Miami on the board first at 37:38 when she took a pass from Andrea Cunningham (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) and maneuvered past Buffalo goalkeeper Emily Cox for a score. Katie Mach (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) also was credited with an assist.

Cunningham notched what would be the game-winner at 40:03 when Danielle Berkemeier (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) found her streaking down the middle and put the ball at her feet. Audry Wieman (Fisherville, Ky./Sacred Heart) also assisted on the resulting goal.

Following the half, Buffalo put itself back in reach with a well-placed Brenna McJury goal that came following a corner kick. The goal was one of just five total shots and three shots on goal for Buffalo.

Miami put the game out of reach at 78:46 when Berkemeier served a ball from the left side to Shaedyn Cousino (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill), who headed it past the goalkeeper for her first goal of the year. Cunningham notched the game's final score with 45 seconds to play when Berkemeier once again found her with a pass. The resulting tap-in secured Cunningham's second multiple-goal of the season and ninth of her career. Berkemeier's three assists, meanwhile, tied a Miami record that was set earlier this season by Altiero.

"We really enjoy playing in Buffalo," Kramig said. "They've got a great facility and they're a first-class program. I think tonight was very representative of how good MAC soccer can be. Our goal now will be to string a few more of these type performances together."

Miami, which improved to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the MAC, plays its eighth road game in nine games Sunday at Kent State. The contest is slated to begin at 1 p.m. Miami is 5-0 this season when playing at an opponent's venue.

Buffalo dropped to 4-5 on the season and 3-2 in the MAC.
