Final Stats

With a 4-0 shutout win over Akron, the RedHawks are 4-0 in the Mid-American Conference, have registered five consecutive shutout victories and outscored their opponents 13-0 in the last 506 minutes of play. Senior Andrea Cunningham (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) scored two goals for the Red and White at Lee Jackson Field in Akron, Ohio to bring the Miami overall record to 6-1-1.

Senior Danielle Berkemeier (Fairfield, OH/Fairfield) finished a cross that sophomore Ashley Swinehart (Worthington, OH/Worthington) distributred from the right side with the clock reading 14:37 to score the game-winner for the RedHawks. The Berkemeier goal marked the third time in the weekend that the senior forward had scored off a cross.

Less than three minutes later, senior Shaedyn Cousino (Cincinnati, OH/Indian Hill) added another goal for Miami when she was brought down inside the penalty box. Cousino finished the play off by placing the ball to the right of Akron goalkeeper Meghan McCarthy for the penalty kick goal.

Cunningham sealed the victory for the RedHawks in the second half with two goals. Sophomore Laura Freel (Atlanta, GA/Westminster) served the ball into Cunningham through traffic for Cunningham's first goal of the contest in the 54th minute.

Cunningham scored her second goal less than two minutes after her first. Swinehart tallied another assist in the contest when her cross from the endline was booted in by Cunningham.

"I am real happy with our defense right now," said head coach Bobby Kramig. "Two shutouts on the weekend is great for us."

Freshman Leigh Terry (Grand Haven, MI/Grand Haven) and junior Emily Smith (Louisville, KY/Male) combined for the RedHawks fifth straight shutout. Terry made two saves in her 78 minutes of play. Zips goalkeeper McCarthy also stopped two RedHawk shots.

 

 

Miami comes home to Miami Soccer Field to face the MAC 2001 regular season champion, Ohio Bobcats on Friday at 5 p.m for Miami soccer T-shirt day. Miami will conclude the weekend with Buffalo on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. on RedHawk key ring day.

"Next weekend is going to be a tough," said Kramig. "We need to come out and play hard."

Miami will stay atop the MAC standings while Akron drops to 0-3-1 in the MAC and 3-4-1 overall.
