Box Score

CINCINNATI - Powered by an early Andrea Cunningham (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) goal and a stellar defensive effort, Miami University's women's soccer team picked up its third consecutive win Monday night, defeating the University of Cincinnati Bearcats, 1-0.

Aided by the deft passing of Danielle Berkemeier (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) and Danielle Altiero (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington), Cunningham put Miami on the scoreboard early. Cunningham lofted a shot just over the reach of Cincinnati goalkeeper Christy Hoffman, who previously had allowed only one goal in four starts.

Cunningham's goal would prove to be all the offense Miami needed, as the RedHawk defense rose to the occasion, earning its second shutout in the last three games. Junior Katie Karlander (Carmel, Ind./Syracuse) was brilliant in goal, notching five saves on the way to her second shutout as a RedHawk. Karlander has not allowed a goal in more than 225 minutes.

With her goal, Cunningham has now found the back of the net in three consecutive contests. Berkemeier, who tallied her second assist of the season has now tallied a goal or assist in eight consecutive matches.

Miami advanced to 3-2 with the win, while the Bearcats slipped to 3-2. The Red and White returns to action this Friday when it travels to Central Michigan for its sixth straight road contest. The RedHawks finally play their home opener this Sunday when they host Utah at 1 p.m.
