WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A slow start was too much for Miami University's women's soccer team to overcome Sunday afternoon, as the RedHawks fell 2-1 to Georgetown University in the consolation round of the Purdue Boilermaker Cup.

Miami struggled in the opening period, allowing the Hoyas to grab an early 2-0 lead. Georgetown's Alyssa Conlow, assisted by Elizabeth Roberti, opened the scoring with a blast into the corner of the net, beating Miami goalkeeper Katie Karlander for her first goal in the Blue and Gray. Roberti also helped set up the Hoyas' second score, delivering a pass to Casey McCann, who found the back of the net with a close-range shot.

The RedHawks began to assert themselves in the second half, creating a number of scoring opportunities and finally getting on the board when Danielle Berkemeier beat the Hoya goalkeeper and delivered a pass to Brooke Paul, who tapped in the goal at 49:30. Despite the spirited effort, the RedHawks were unable light the scoreboard again.

The RedHawks, who fell to 0-2-0, return to action next weekend with another pair of non-conference tilts. Miami travels to Wright State on Friday and Louisville on Sunday.
