Box Score
After the 2-0 defeat at the hands of Hofstra, the RedHawks return to Oxford with a split of their two-game road trip in New York. Junior midfielder Dolores Deasley scored the game winner in the eighth minute of the contest for Hofstra and Miami was not able to overcome the Pride defense, which gave sophomore goalkeeper Rebecca Wachsberger her first career shutout.
Hofstra got on the board first off a corner kick that Miami had cleared out of the goalmouth until junior midfielder Elaine O'Conner returned the ball into the box. Deasley controlled the ball in traffic and promptly kicked the ball into the upper right corner of the goal from about 10 yards out.
Elyse Bizzozzaro put the game out of reach with 5:05 left until the end of regulation when she scored a breakaway goal over the sliding freshman goalkeeper Leigh Terry (Grand Haven, Mich./ Grand Haven).
Terry, who made her collegiate debut for senior Katie Karlander (Carmel, Ind./ Syracuse) who has been nursing a sour foot, made seven saves while her counterpart Wachsberger only made two. Miami was outshot 19-8 in the afternoon contest.
The RedHawks will be hosting the Miami University/Adidas Invitational on Sept. 6 and Sept. 8 that includes the University of Evansville, Georgia Southern University, and St. John's University. Miami opens up the tournament at 3 p.m. against St. John's on Sept. 6 on Miami Soccer Field and concludes the tournament against Georgia Southern at 2:15 on Sept. 8.
