Four RedHawks Earn Field Hockey All-MAC Honors

KENT, Ohio – Senior Danielle Gaynor, junior Katie Brightwell and sophomore Christine Brightwell were named to the field hockey All-Mid American Conference first team at the conference’s postseason awards banquet Thursday night. Senior Elizabeth Gilroy was named to the second team.

Gaynor helped anchor a strong RedHawk defense that allowed only 37 goals in 20 games this season. She also added five goals and three assists. She was previously named to the All-MAC second team, as well as the All-MAC Tournament team in 2007.

Katie Brightwell was one of the top goal scorers this season with eight. Her younger sister Christine also was a strong offensive threat, leading the team with nine goals and also contributing three assists. This is the first conference honor for each of them.

Gilroy was very strong on penalty corners for Miami this year and it helped her lead the team with eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points. She now is the career leader in assists at Miami with 27.

The RedHawks will face Ohio, a 7-0 winner over Missouri State earlier Thursday, in the MAC Tournament semifinal on Friday at 2:30 p.m. Kent State and Central Michigan will play each other in the first semifinal at noon.
