MUNCIE, Ind. – The Mid-American Conference announced at the tournament banquet Thursday night that five Miami field hockey team earned spots on All-MAC teams. Named to the first team were senior forward Mary Hull (San Diego, Calif. /Scripps Ranch), senior midfielder Maggie Marcum (Louisville, Ky. /Sacred Heart Academy) and senior back Katie Brightwell (Louisville, Ky. /Assumption). Junior midfielder Christine Brightwell (Louisville, Ky. /Assumption) and junior forward Kate Snyder (Trucksville, Pa. /Wyoming Seminary) were named to the second team.
Hull, a veteran offensive leader for Miami, currently leads the RedHawks in points with 30 and goals with a career-best of 13. She has a career-most five game winning goals and a team-best shot percentage at .342. Hull was also named the MAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 6 of this year after scoring four total goals and two game-winning goals that week.
Marcum is second on the team with a career-high 12 goals. The 27 points, two game-winning goals and .293 shot percent that she has tallied this season put her at second on the team in these categories. Marcum was also recognized for her outstanding performance this season as she was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 29 after scoring four goals on the week, including two against the then-No. 17 Indiana Hoosiers.
Also recording two game-winning goals during the 2009 regular season was fellow senior first-team honoree Katie Brightwell. Like Hull and Marcum, Brightwell, too, received the honor of MAC Offensive Player of the Week, awarded to her on Sept. 22 for her 11 points on three goals and five assists that week. Brightwell is fourth on the team with 22 points, and led the team in assists with a career-best of 12. This is Brightwell’s second appearance on the First Team All-MAC after she received the honor in 2008 as well.
Earning her second All-MAC nod this season is junior
Christine Brightwell. She is second on the RedHawks with 50 shots and six assists. She also has tacked on four goals and 14 points this season for the RedHawks. Brightwell was named to the First-Team All-Mac as well as the Academic All-MAC team last season.
Rounding out the award-winners for Miami in 2009 is junior Kate Snyder who earns her first honor with the Red and White. Snyder currently has 10 goals, three assists, 23 points and 39 shots, all of which are new career-highs for the Miami forward. She is now third on the team in goals scored after putting in two against Missouri State on Thursday.
The RedHawks defeated the Missouri State Bears earlier Thursday, 9-1, in the MAC Quarterfinals. Miami will take on Kent State Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the semifinal round.
