OXFORD, Ohio - Seniors Karen Preikszas (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) and Beth Young (Toledo, Ohio/Maumee Valley CD) closed out their Miami field hockey careers by being named to the Mid-American Conference first team and second team, respectively. Young has been a member of the second-team for three straight years while Preikszas is recognized for the first time in her career.

Preikszas, who started all 20 contests in which she played this season, led the RedHawks with seven defensive saves. As part of a defense that faced 246 penalty corners in 21 contests, Preikszas concludes her career with 21 defensive saves for Miami. Preikszas also is a two-time member of the NFHCA National Academic Squad.

Young is selected to the all-MAC second-team for the third consecutive season after tallying two assists in 21 games this year. She wraps-up her career at Miami with 50 career points (20-10-50), which is good for 11th all-time in school history. Young finishes her career with 82 career starts and has been named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad twice.

The Miami field hockey team ended the 2001 campaign with a 2-19 record and a first-round MAC Tournament loss to Louisville, 4-0.
