OXFORD, Ohio – Coming off a weekend in which Miami defeated Big Ten foe Indiana, 3-2, and followed it up with an 8-2 victory over Mid-American Conference rival Missouri State the following day, the RedHawks face their biggest test of the season as they travel to current MAC leader Kent State on Saturday for a 2 p.m. game. They will follow it up with a 1 p.m. match at Ohio on Sunday.
With three conference games remaining over the next two weeks, Miami is looking to gain at least a share of the MAC regular season title. Kent State currently leads the race at 6-1, Miami is second at 5-2 and Ohio is third at 4-3. If the RedHawks win out, they will clinch at least a share of their first MAC title since 1982, since they would give the Golden Flashes their second loss. Finishing at least in the top two is also very important, as that would give Miami a first round bye in the upcoming MAC Tournament, Nov. 6-8.
About Kent State
Kent State is 12-4 on the season, and 5-1 in the MAC. The Golden Flashes defeated Miami 2-1 in their earlier meeting in Oxford back on Oct. 4. Kent State is on a six-game winning streak, and defeated Central Michigan, 5-2, last Friday, before stepping out of conference and beating Michigan, 1-0, on Sunday. Its leading scorer is freshman Debbie Bell, who has 15 goals and two assists on the year.
About Ohio
Ohio is 6-10 overall and 4-3 in the MAC. In Oxford on Oct. 5, the RedHawks earned a 2-1 victory over the Bobcats, gaining a measure of revenge after losing to them in the MAC Tournament Championship last season. Ohio has dropped its last three games in a row. It fell to Michigan State 2-1 in overtime last Saturday, and then lost a 1-0 decision to Central Michigan on Sunday. The Bobcats top player is senior forward Rachelle Coetzee. She has scored nine goals and recorded two assists on the season.
