OXFORD, Ohio -

In a replay of last year's MAC Tournament Championship game, when the Ohio Bobcats defeated the Miami RedHawks in overtime, Miami was able to overcome Ohio by a score of 2-1 Sunday at Miami Turf Field. It is with that momentum that the Miami field hockey team heads into another double-header weekend, facing Central Michigan at home on Friday at 3 p.m. before traveling to Muncie, Ind. to take on Ball State on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Opponents:
The Central Michigan Chippewas
Central Michigan is 1-8 overall and 3-0 in MAC play this season. In their match against Indiana on Sunday the Chippewas fell in overtime 1-0. Senior midfielder Samantha Sandham leads the team with seven goals on the season, and was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 16 after her first career hatrick in CMU's 7-1 victory over Colgate.

The Ball State Cardinals
The Ball State Cardinals are 0-10 overall and fell to 0-3 in MAC play after back-to-back losses against Ohio and Kent State on Saturday and Sunday. The team's sole win came in the beggining of the season when they defeated Davidson 2-0 at the Miami Kickoff Classic. Freshman forward Brittany Hammer leads the Cardinals with five goals and is tied with junior forward Brooke MacGillivary for most assists with three on the season.

It was a hotly-contested game for Miami on Sunday as the game was stopped numerous times for rough play and three player conduct cards and numerous warnings were handed out. Junior Maggie Marcum started the scoring early for the RedHawks with a goal in the 21st minute of action. Sophomore Christine Brightwell followed shortly after with a mid-traffic shot.

The Bobcats would respond with a goal before the end of the first half for a 2-1 game going into intermission, but against a tough Miami defensive showing in the second half of play, they would be unable to score again.

Miami will be back in action after this weekend of conference play to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 3 p.m. in Columbus, Ohio.
