CLEVELAND – For the second consecutive week two Miami field hockey players have taken the MAC’s Player of the Week accolades. Senior back Maggie Marcum (Louisville, Ky.) has been named the Offensive Player of the Week while sophomore goalkeeper Abbey Huck (Emmaus, Pa.) was named the Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week. This is Marcum’s first honor of the season.
Marcum scored four goals on the week for Miami, including the game-winning goal against Central Michigan in overtime on Sunday, helping extend the RedHawks’ winning streak to five games. The four accumulated this week bring her to six on the season which ties her total number of goals during the 2008 season. She scored two of the five goals against No. 17 Indiana, the only two goals against CMU, and her shots-on-goal percentage was .778.
Huck recorded another 11 saves this week, bringing her total on the season to 38. She currently has 38 of the 45 total saves the RedHawks have accumulated this season and is only nine saves shy of her 2008 season total. For the second-straight week she was able to hold opponents to one goal per contest, bringing her goals allowed average down to 0.94. Huck started and played in both games, accruing a save percentage of .846. That brings her season's save percentage to .704. She is now 5-3-0 on the season and a perfect 2-0-0 in conference play.
Miami will take the field again this Friday in Muncie, Ind. against Ball State at 3 p.m. before returning home for the next six games.
