OXFORD, Ohio -- The Miami University field hockey team received eight points in the Mid-American conference field hockey coaches poll this week. Kent State was voted to win a third consecutive MAC field hockey title by receiving 35 of a possible 36 points in the preseason poll.

After finishing last season with a 7-14 record and 4-6 mark in the MAC, the RedHawks enter the 2001 season with 13 returning letterwinners. Miami will be led by a trio of captains in seniors Karen Preikszas (Medfield, Mass./Medfield), Beth Young (Toledo, Ohio/Maumee Valley C.D.) and junior Julie Nelson (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase).

The rest of the preseason voting broke down with Ohio receiving 28 points, Louisville with 23 points to round out the top three in the conference. Ball State and Central Michigan both received 16 points to finish in a tie for fourth. The Red and White fill-out the MAC preseason voting in the sixth position with eight points.

Miami will officially begin the 2001 season this Sunday, August 26, at Indiana at 1 p.m.
