OXFORD, Ohio - As the 2008 season approaches, Miami University head field hockey coach Jill Reeve took some time to answer a few questions about this year's version of RedHawk field hockey.

What do you see as the primary strength of this year's team?

`I think this team is unified in their desire to be great and they have a willingness to make the sacrifices necessary to get there."

Do you have a single goal that you are looking for this team to achieve, or are there several?

"I think it will be important for this team to determine what success means to them and then set a course to accomplish those directives. My personal goals for this team are to outwork, outprepare, and outplay all of our competition this season."

Are there games that you will use as a measuring stick for your team in the early going?

"Our opening weekend will be a terrific measuring moment. Richmond and Davidson are similar programs to ours; very competitive and are well-coached. Also, we will be competing with several top-20 teams this season. I think the team has had a taste of success this spring against this type of opposition and will be hoping to continue that trend. "

Who are the leaders of the '08 RedHawks?

"Our captains Elizabeth Gilroy and Danielle will be leading our crew this season. They are both proven and respected leaders on the team. I look forward to watching them spread their wings in their leadership roles in their quest to take the team to the next level."

"What's interesting about our captains is that they served together as captains of their high school team (Scripps Ranch in San Diego, Calif.). It isn't often you get a second chance to lead a team together. I hope they enjoy their experience at this next level. "

"Our six seniors are a formidable group of leaders. They all have a good sense of themselves and what they want out of this senior season. I believe in them. They all are of good character and possess a work-ethic and love for one another that is truly special."

What does  Danielle Gaynor bring to your team as a senior?

"Danielle is a leader on and off the field. She is a great student, she's active in the RedHawk Council, and she's a good friend and teammate to all. On the field, I believe she will be the "rock" in the middle that keeps everything sound."

With Kelsey Dean and Megan Stengel, as well as several freshmen, how do you see the goalkeeper position working out?

"I look forward to the three vying for the top position. Megan has the most experience, Kelsey has shown great promise and Abbey our incoming freshman may be the most competitive. It will be a terrific battle."

How will the MAC be this year? Where will Miami fit in, in your opinion?

"As always the MAC will be super competitive. Every team has improved its competitive power over the past few years. I believe the combination of our team's experience, leadership and talent will create an opportunity for us to set the standard in the MAC this season."
