OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University field hockey team and head coach Lil Fesperman are proud to announce the hiring of Kathleen Schanne (Providence '97) as the new assistant field hockey coach. Schanne has spent the past two seasons with Mid-American Conference rival Kent State as a graduate assistant coach working towards her masters degree in education, which she was awarded this past May.

During her two-year stay with the Golden Flashes Schanne was involved in all aspects of the program, which included overseeing the academic progress of the student-athletes through weekly meetings. Also, she assisted in the organization of practices, and was an integral part of the Kent State recruiting effort. Schanne capped off her final season at Kent State by assisting in the planning and organizing of the 2001 NCAA Division I National Championships, which were hosted by Kent State.

Prior to her tenure at Kent State Schanne served as the assistant head coach at the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur High School in Villanova, Pa., for two years. Schanne taught grades six, seven, nine, 10 and 11 in various subjects, while also coaching the basketball and softball teams. She also has worked with the USFHA Futures program for the last four years.

Schanne was a star field hockey player at Providence College in Providence, R.I., from 1993-97. While with the Friars she was named to the All-Big East Second Team and was a Big East Academic All-Star in 1995. Schanne put the finishing touches on her collegiate career by playing in the North-South All-Star game at the conclusion of her senior season at Providence.

A native of Newtown Square, Pa., Schanne graduated from Providence with a bachelor's degree in social science and a minor in theology in 1997.
