OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University field hockey team wrapped up its spring season this past weekend by hosting its own spring tournament. In attendance at the Miami Turf Field were Denison, Dayton Club and the Miami Alumnae team as the RedHawks took the tourney title with a 7-2 win over the Dayton Club team.

"Despite the lousy playing conditions, I think everyone had a good time at the tourney," head coach Lil Fesperman says. "Our team really did a good job of executing the things that we have been working on this winter and spring. I am pleased with the offensive production that they created and the accuracy of their shots."

The Red and White split against Denison, dropping its first game 1-0, but responded in the semifinals of the tourney with a 4-2 victory. Miami defeated the Dayton Club team earlier in the tourney, 1-0, before running away with the championship game. In the only other game of the tournament, Miami defeated its own alumnae squad, 3-0.

Dropping in five goals for the RedHawks and leading the team in the tournament was freshman Jessica Saling (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart). Junior Angie Snedden (Sarnia, Ontario/St. Christopher's) was the Red and White's second leading scorer with four goals, while both junior Amy Butterworth (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) and sophomore Megan Wiegand (Encinitas, Calif./LaCosta Canyon) chipped in with two goals each.

Also getting in on the scoring for the RedHawks were sophomore Meredith Lee (San Jose, Calif./Lynbrook) and freshman Keri von Kalinowski (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch). Lee and von Kalinowski each scored once for Miami.

Miami has completed its spring season and now awaits its 2003 season opener, which is tentatively scheduled for August 31 at Indiana.
