OXFORD, Ohio - Six members of the 2001 Miami University field hockey team were recently named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic squad. Student-athletes selected have attained a minimum overall GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2001-02 academic year and are starters or key reserves on their respective teams.

Seniors Karen Preikszas (Medfield, Mass./Medfield), Cheryl Iozzi (Kettering, Ohio/Kettering) and Beth Young (Toledo, Ohio/Maumee Valley CD) head up the list of RedHawks selected to the academic squad. Preikszas and Young earn their third NFHCA academic squad honors while Iozzi receives her second academic squad selection. First-time academic squad honorees for Miami are sophomores Amy Butterworth (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) and Angie Snedden (Sarnia, Ontario/St. Christopher's), and freshman Gillian Lindsay (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights).

The RedHawks are currently in the midst of their spring season but will open the 2002 ledger on August 31 at home against Indiana at 1 p.m.
