MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - Three goals by Central Michigan's Kelly Jordan were more than the Miami University field hockey team could overcome as the RedHawks (10-12, 5-5 MAC) fell, 3-1 to the Central Michigan Chippewas (11-11, 5-5 MAC) in Miami's first Mid-American Conference Tournament championship game since the tournament format moved to six teams.

The third-seeded RedHawks advanced to the title tilt with overtime victories over sixth-seeded Ball State and second-seeded Ohio, but two CMU goals in the first half on Saturday forced Miami to play from behind for most of the contest and overtime wasn't in the cards for a third night in a row.

Jordan opened the scoring in the game's 13th minute with a one-timer from five yards out that found its way past Miami goalkeeper Kerri Orr (San Diego, Calif.), a first-team all-MAC performer this season.

Central Michigan found the back of the cage again just over 13 minutes later when Jordan fired a shot from just inside the circle into the lower right corner of the goal, giving the Chippewas a 2-0 advantage.

With time running out in the first half, Miami's Taylor Florence (Louisville, Ky.) cut the CMU lead in half as she with sophomore Alyssa Nye (Bernville, Pa.) and senior Keri von Kalinowski (San Diego, Calif.) for a goal from the top of the circle.

After being outshot, 7-1 in the first half, Miami turned up its offensive intensity in the second frame, holding an 8-2 edge in shots, but Central Michigan's Danielle Frank stood strong in the cage, making four saves in the final 35 minutes.

At the 52:19 mark, Jordan completed the hat-trick and put the game out of reach for the Red and White when she banged home a rebound for her 10th goal of the season.

Miami had three players named to the All-MAC Tournament Team. Kerri Orr, Courtney Fretz (Oley, Pa.) and Teja Kammler (Telford, Pa.) were all rewarded for their roles in taking Miami to the program's first conference championship game since the MAC Tournament went to six teams.
