Final Stats

OXFORD, Ohio - Senior Courtney Fretz scored three goals on Senior Day to help lead Miami to a 5-0 win over Ball State Sunday. The RedHawks finish the regular season 14-6 and 7-3 in the Mid-American Conference. The 14 wins represent the best regular season win total since 1982.

All five of the RedHawks' goals came in the first half. Fretz opened the scoring early at the 5:29 mark off the rebound of a shot that had hit the Cardinals goalie. Danielle Gaynor added another goal three minutes later on a penalty corner. Fretz and Elizabeth Gilroy added two more goals later in the half with open shots into the net after performing strong moves to fake out their defenders. Fretz then completed her hat trick off a pass from Maggie Marcum at the 22:42 mark.

Senior Megan Stengel was solid in net, earning her fifth career shutout. She had four saves. Fretz and Gilroy tied for the team lead with four shots each. Miami outshot Ball State 18-7 for the game.

The RedHawks will be the second seed in next week's MAC Tournament in Kent, Ohio. Miami will have a bye to the semifinals, and will face the winner of the quarterfinal match between the third seed Ohio and the sixth seed Missouri State on Friday, Nov. 7 at 2:30 p.m.
