ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Courtney Fretz’s scored the game-winning goal 2:18 into overtime, as the Miami University field hockey team earned a dramatic come-from-behind victory against Michigan on Friday. The RedHawks improve to 13-6 overall. The Wolverines are 8-10.

"It was a terrific game," said head coach Jill Reeve. "We played real well and were firing on all cylanders. We executed our penalty corners and the game plan real well."

Michigan kept Miami off the board for the first 56 minutes of the game as they took a 2-0 lead off two goals by Zara Saydjari in the first half. Kelsey Dean came in to play the second half and shutout the Wolverines the rest of the way, recording three saves.

Miami got on the board at the 56:32 mark off a penalty corner as Kate Snyder took the setup from Katie Brightwell on the left side of the circle and beat the goaltender. Only 26 seconds later, the RedHawks created a breakaway opportunity and Mary Hull found Maggie Marcum with a perfect pass to the left post, which Marcum one-timed into the net.

In overtime, Elizabeth Gilroy was able to get free in the circle. She then sent the pass to Fretz by the left post, who then one-timed the game-winner into the net.

For the game, Miami outshot Michigan 15-10, including a 13-6 advantage in the second half and overtime. Marcum led the team with four shots, including three on goal.

"The team should be really proud," said Reeve. "It was such a good game. These are the types of games that are so much fun to play."

The RedHawks conclude the regular season with a Mid-American Conference game against Ball State at 1 p.m. at Miami Turf Field. Fans are encouraged to arrive early, as there will be a pregame ceremony honoring the team’s six seniors.
