Final Stats

KENT, Ohio - In a battle for first place in the Mid-American Conference, the Miami University field hockey team fell, 3-1, to Kent State Saturday. The RedHawks are now 11-6 overall and 5-3 in the MAC. The Golden Flashes clinch the regular season title, as they improve to 13-4 overall and 7-1 in the MAC.

Kent State struck with two goals a little over a minute apart in the first half to take control of the game. After the Golden Flashes added one more goal early in the second half, Miami answered at the 59:16 mark when Christine Brightwell scored on a penalty corner off assists from Elizabeth Gilroy and Kate Snyder. The RedHawks continued to press but were unable to get any closer as the Golden Flashes held on for the win.

Kent State outshot Miami 14-10 for the game.  Brightwell led the team with three shots, including two on goal. Kelsey Dean made three saves in net.

The RedHawks conclude their road trip Sunday with a 1 p.m. game at Ohio.
