OXFORD, Ohio - Senior Cheryl Iozzi (Kettering, Ohio/Kettering) scored the Miami University (2-14) field hockey team's lone goal on her birthday in a losing effort, 3-1, to No. 10 Ohio State (11-3). Despite a 17-0 OSU penalty corner and a 28-2 shot advantage, the Buckeyes were held to three field goals by a strong RedHawk defense. Three goals turned out to be enough, however, as Ohio State improved its record to 11-3 overall.

The Buckeyes are the fifth ranked team that the Red and White have faced in the last eight contests.

Iozzi, who netted her first career goal last season against OSU, fired up the RedHawks early with the games first goal at 23:21. Iozzi's classmate, Beth Young (Toledo, Ohio/Maumee Valley C.D.), was credited with the assist on the goal bringing her career point total to 50. Young is two points away from tying Theresa Theiler (1980-83) for tenth all-time at Miami in career points.

Ohio State didn't wait long to score as sophomore Jenee Doto scored her fourth and fifth goals of the season to give the Buckeyes a 2-1 edge. Freshman Lucy Clayton assisted on Doto's first goal and freshman Lorena Margni was credited with the hand-out on the second Doto goal.

Miami kept the tenth ranked Buckeyes close throughout the remainder of the first period as senior goalkeeper Marie Vaughn (Davis, Calif./Davis) registered 11 saves in the stanza. Vaughn, who entered the contest ranked fourth in the country in saves, made 17 stops to bring her season tally to 139.

The Buckeyes continued to put on a strong offensive front in the second half, outshooting the RedHawks 13-1 and drawing ten penalty corners to Miami's zero. Senior Marije van Nouhuys scored her 11th goal of the season at the 31:14 mark in the period to give OSU its 3-1 win.

The RedHawks seek an end to their 14-game losing streak as they travel to No. 13 Ohio on Friday, Oct. 19, and to No. 12 Kent State on Saturday, Oct. 20.
